Action! Commercial Use?

Mon Jun 24, 2013 1:31 pm

Hello, I'm planning on buying Action! to continue making YouTube videos. I'm partnered with Full Screen but I don't have many subscribers, currently 4,000+

I was wondering If I would have to use the Commercial version of Action! ?

As I am still in education YouTube money is a fair amount for me and therefore I don't know If I would just be able to use the Home Version.

Please get back as fast as possible, thanks.

If this is not your main income source and your profits from monetizing videos does not exceed cost of commercial license you can go with home.

e: I was informed to edit my post. Mirillis policy has been changed. Commercial license is required for users who monetize their videos with ads.

Is there a page on Mirillis explaining how the Commercial Version is different? An extra 70% in price doesn't make sense for a Commercial license for small youTube channels, when comparable software has no such extra cost.
In a way I'm fine with having an extra price, but I expect to get a Professional Version of the software that has more options than the regular one in order to be worth a whole extra 70%.

There are indeed some other programs that do have separate license pricing based on commercial vs home use. PlayClaw is a major competitor and one of the top tier screen recorders right now and it also does this. If you monetize and you are making a profit is it really going to hurt you to pay a one time fee that is only about the cost of a trip to McDonald's? It makes sense (at least to me) to have a lower fee licence for the folks that only use the program for non-profit uses as they are not getting anything back. The profit becomes "in the black" as we say because it is a pure expense.

Mind you, I say this because we are not talking about a difference between a $15 and $300 or something insanely steep. The price difference is $19.95 vs $49.95, neither of which are a painful purchase. It's actually on sale right now at $32.95, which ain't bad. I can't say I wouldn't mind getting some extra features for the price, but this is a normal business practice for smaller developers. Make your money where you can, but don't turn down a sale to "the little guy."
