Just tested the pro version of Splash for few days now, and personaly i don't like motion2 too much. It makes 1080p videos run little smoother yes, but also makes movies look weird, like shot using an amateur video camcorder.. Detail boost is good. The video basic settings don't seem to make any difference in the picture for me.. I'll stick to the free version at least for now.

That is the job of MCFI responsible for converting low-motion to high-motion. It would seem mirillis have yet to implement it properly. But when its done, you should be able to control the amount of synthetic frames.


PS: It would be ideal to shoot films in 48p with blur, but it's proving difficult. James Camaron is currently pushing for widespread adaptation of 48p as it complements 3D, but it will take some time for people to let go of the old ways. Until then, we have MCFI to play with.

This is a very common reaction to frame interpolation. Many people who saw HD video on a high end HDTV, which has some interpolation technique built-in, say the picture is weird.
It was the same with me at first - movies seemed like shot with a hand camera and sometimes felt... too quick? But I got used to it very fast and it was pretty hard to get unused to it And I had to, since my HTPC ain't powerful enough to support frame interpolation in any form

Yes, it definitely takes time to adopt to it but it certainly does improve motion detail when done correctly.

This is also called "soap effect", 'coz movies look like mexican soap tv shows I was experimenting a lot with avisynth/mvtools/ffdshow scripts and techniques for 24 to 48/50/60 fps framerate interpolation. And found that 75fps forced to 50Hz output, and 90fps on 60Hz output looks really great. Much less soap effect and less artefacts compared to 50fps/50Hz or 60fps/60Hz due to some judder introduction while keeping almost perfect smoothness. I watch HD movies this way for months. But this really require some fast 4+ core/thread CPU for 1080p.

Some people over at AVS treat it like dirt LOL. But I like it. I won't use it for critical viewing, but I like the effect.

If I am viewing a video (.mts file off my Sony HD camera) in 1080i will the "Capture Frame" capture in the same quality.
