some feedback

Sun Sep 23, 2012 10:52 am

After using Action! since 1.3 and exchanging experiences with alot of other players (almost everyone in my clan uses Action!, various youtubers and tons of crysis 2 players) I wanted to post some of the collected feeback here.

pros:

- only small performance hit on the pc while recording (in comparison to fraps, dxtory etc.)
- very little input delay (besides the general performance, some programs cause a delay of the mouse and keyboard input)
- all in all good video quality
- comfortable and good looking GUI
- works flawless with most games we tested (Bf3, Crysis 2, CS:Source/GO, Portal 2, DayZ, EVE, Dead Island, DOTA...)
- steady updates and somehow listening to the community (seems awesome in the eyes of crysis 2 players...)
- CUDA support
- stability and reliability (almost no crashes - no corrupted video files for us)

cons:

- recording only up to 60fps (120+ would be awesome for some special video effects)
- no 480p option
- the position of the "delete all video files" button is dangerous
- only few options regarding recording (bitrate, codec...)
- no "enthusiast" setting for high end rigs (like a very high profile)
- some people got some random 1sec lag in the first 10sec of their first recording after startup.

wishes:

- include a small video cutter/editor (would help to save disk space and improve the organization of small clips)
- like mentioned above, more recording settings (more fps, 480p, codecs, bitrate, compression)
- hide the delete all button
- live streaming option (just saw that it is already planed)
- the possibility to get rid of the complete TeamSpeak/Skype audio
- update option inside the program (not by using the website)

to be continued.

All in all we think that you got the best recording software atm. Especially the great performance and small input delay is worth the money for gamers playing competitivly and the nice GUI does its job too. I bet, If you will add a small video editor and the live streaming option, your userbase will enlarge drastically. Thank you for your awesome piece of software.

I split your post in two quotes so I can easily reply to both of them.

- Recording to 60fps is now maximum, but we don't say that it won't be increased in future.
- Recording to 480p has always been available.

- "Delete all" button has been removed in 1.10 due too much confusions.
- What more would like to see? I personally don't use more than mentioned if you upload my videos directly to YouTube.
- Currently we are offering normal as high.
- This may be caused by hard drive overuse if they are starting recording in-game footage, but haven't received any reports about this issue. If you could gather more information about it and send it to support@mirillis.com we would grateful.

- Basic video editing feature is planned.
- "Delete all" is no longer available from 1.10
- Live streaming feature is planned for future versions.
- As far as I know there's no way to do that. TS and Skype are applications, not the separate audio devices. This makes them almost impossible to remove from sound system audio path.
- If you have selected Check For Updates in General Settings you should get a notification near system tray that the update is available after clicking on it your Action! application update should start immediately.

- Recording to 60fps is now maximum, but we don't say that it won't be increased in future. (well, it is enough for most users)
- Recording to 480p has always been available. (sry, I was thinking about 360p)
- "Delete all" button has been removed in 1.10 due too much confusions. (thx)
- What more would like to see? I personally don't use more than mentioned if you upload my videos directly to YouTube. (some friends would like to see some basic formats like .wmv - but all in all its already enough)
- Currently we are offering normal as high. (Fraps and Afterburner seem to have a tiny advantage regarding the quality - will try to get some screenshots)
- This may be caused by hard drive overuse if they are starting recording in-game footage, but haven't received any reports about this issue. If you could gather more information about it and send it to support@mirillis.com we would grateful. (after upgrading to 16gb of ram the problem completly vanished - looks like 4gb is not enough to record modern games)
- Basic video editing feature is planned. (awesome)
- Live streaming feature is planned for future versions. (nice, whole clan is waiting for it)
- As far as I know there's no way to do that. TS and Skype are applications, not the separate audio devices. This makes them almost impossible to remove from sound system audio path. (it is tricky I know, there are workarounds with virtual audio cable - perhaps you could include sth. similar, but yes it wont work for everyone)
- If you have selected Check For Updates in General Settings you should get a notification near system tray that the update is available after clicking on it your Action! application update should start immediately.(worked with 1.10 to 1.11 for me)
Thx for your fast response. Will try to visit the forums more often.

WISH:
- Additional mouse hotkeys
- Option to hide hud when recording (EDIT: it would hide automatically, not by F6. The new option in 1.11 is good but i want to make sure that im recording so im checking status by clicking F6 twice)
- Information about low space on disc
- 2nd option for output audio: for example i want to 1st output for headphones and 2nd speakers
