Insane FPS drop

Thu Nov 15, 2012 9:33 pm

Hi all,
I've recently decided to use Action to record my ingame footage but whenever I try to record while in a game my FPS go all the way from 60 to 1 which causes the game to freeze for a second and then it starts all over again...
60 FPS aaaand 1 again... It's completely unplayable... I have a pretty good rig ( core i5 2500k Sapphire 7970 OC Force 3 SSD...) and setting down the game's graphic options does not help one bit. Still the same issue.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Cheers :)

Is this occur only in a particular game or every game you are trying to record?

Hi,
Thx for taking time to help me:)
So far I've tried to record ingame action on both BF3 and Borderlands2 and the result is the same.
I'm playing at 60 FPS for like 10 to 30 seconds and suddenly my frame rates drop to 0 the game freezes for a second or two and jumps back to 60 FPS...
The video recorded looks just like what I see ingame including the frame rate drops.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that the drive I'm currently recording on is a USB 2 external hdd...
I get that it's probably not the best solution and sure is temporary for I already bought a WD black caviar to receive future footage.
Could my problem come from the fact that the external HDD is a bit slow?
Then why wouldn't it happen with dxtory too then?

Yes, this is probably the cause. Your external drive cannot take this much data at particular moment and this is causing your game (and recording too) to freeze.
