Video Benchmark Dirt 3 Action VS No Recording VS Fraps

Sat Jan 05, 2013 9:28 pm

Hi,

Like I said in an earlier post I'm testing Action! and I noticed a "big" drop in fps when recording video.

Running dirt 3 on Ultra settings I get an average frame rate of 40.54 and a low of 33.30.
Lowering the settings doesn't improve frame rate while recording.

Doing the same benchmark without recording video gives me and average fps of 61.16 and low 52.62 fps

Using Fraps I get an average of 45.41 fps and a low 31.39fps

In Assasins Creed revelations I had a similar drops in framerate.

I also looked at the possibility that my CPU might be overloaded but that isn't the case

Additional note: taking screenshots in Dirt 3 with Action give a smeared out picture as a result.

My system:
Amd 955BE
Corsair Vengeance 16GB
5770 Crossfire
Crusial M4 256GB (OS & Game)
Samsung HD103SJ 1TB (for video recording)

What's causing the drop in frame rate?

I haven't bought Fraps or Action yet, I'm currently evaluating both.

Any advice is welcome ;)

We have tested Dirt 3 and Assassin's Creed 3 in our labs and our recordings oscillate around 45-55 fps. Is there any possibility that you could provide us a sample of your video file where the drops occurs?
