About AVI and file sizes

Fri Oct 18, 2013 8:42 am

I've noticed that my AVI recordings are HUGE I mean a 1minute clip is 800MB in size... I know I could export it to mp4 an reduce it using Action... but Vegas wont recognize some files exported using action (only shows audio track... posted about this before, no solution yet... and it does it randomly not in every video)

Now a friend of mine also uses action I've matched his settings ALL I COULD FIND and his videos using same resolution etc... are smaller than mine I run an i7 660ti he runs an AMD x3 and a 6870 and a 20min recording in AVI is around 2.71GB while my recordings 20mins = 12GB in size aprox...

Both using AVI and same settings in action...

Any help on this?

Check the video bitrate in your and your friends video? You can open the info panel by pressing "i" in Action Player. Let me know the values.

Currently my friend is busy so he cant tell me his bit rate, but mine is 80.000~160.000 Mbps How would I lower the bit rate? I mean I've never seen an option to lock it on a lower setting

This is my friends Bitrate, much much lower than mine how do i set mine to a reasonable rate?????
His resolution is also a bit lower but... the difference in file size is just too big

Try and reply. Its , probably, solve your problem.

My version is 16.3

But, pay attention: PC games using more bitrates then desktop records, its because higher bitrate in various files.

If asking me, what content you record, is the factor what bitrate you end up with. I always see when doing desktop recording, that Action! rarely detecting full 60 frames or even any, when very little happens on my screen.
I today tried record my desktop and had about same low bitrate as your friend. Then I opened a random video from my library and saw, that the bitrate in my recording, quickly raised the moment to about 60.000 Mbps (1280x1024 60fps).

Try do some desktop recording, play with it and you should see your friend's bitrate. ;)
