Action! HEVC(H.265) support?

Thu Jul 17, 2014 8:10 am

Are there any plans to add support for HEVC(H.265) in Action!?

Isn't H.265 requiring like 12 times more cpu power (to encode) than h.264, at this moment? I've read encoders talking of encoding small movies (45 mins) and taking over a DAY to encode that haha. Yes the end result is a lower sized file that it would be for h.264, for the same quality, but I don't think current technology can really achieve realtime compression.

I might be mistaken though, not an expert... :)

Here's an example http://www.cyberlink.com/products/media ... S.html?r=1
With Intel® Quick Sync / NVIDIA® CUDA It's very impressive!

Ya but that doesn't say how much processing power it take:

(page 2 is more interesting)

*I* encode alot of movies, using x246 (h.264 variant), usually I encode a movie 160% slower than the runtime. A 90 minutes movie can easily take 2h30-3h to encode. To think it could take 12 to 36 hours to encode... wow! But as I've read, the quality would be better, and the filesize would be lower.

So even if "your" encoder has something wonderfully fast to it, and chopped those in half, it's still way too processing hungry.
