Action! is great, when it works.

Action 1.19.2.0 on Windows 7 64bit

I love Action! replaced Fraps that I had used for many years. Trouble with Action is that it doesn't always show up in the game (Mass Effect 2 and 3, Final Fantasy XIV ARR and Guild wars 2) I would say 50% of the time it shows and all is ok. Other 50% I have to keep restarting it before it shows or restart the game while it's running. Fraps works 100%.

Other problem is recording Mass Effect 3 and the cutscenes run at 30fps and gameplay is 60fps but while recording at 30fps all is good with the gameplay but soon as a cutscenes starts and the PC has to load the fps drops to 20fps for a split second and this either cuts off the audio or stops the video for massive pauses making it impossible to render like that without cutting it all out. The UI shows no error was made and still shows it's recording ok.
Im using 30fps AMD APP mp4 and set to high 85%. My Hard drives are not SSD but SATA III. To record now I have to pause every time the fps drops while loading to check I have audio at the end.

Have you tried running your game first and then switch back to desktop to run Action?
