Black Screen on Recordings after Windows Update 24H2

Wed Nov 12, 2025 9:27 am

Hello,

I recently updated to Windows 11 Version 24H2, and now I am encountering a critical issue with Action!

Whenever I try to record Desktop or Gameplay (using the active screen mode), the resulting video file has audio but a completely black screen.

Steps I have taken (Troubleshooting):

I have tried both MP4 and AVI recording formats—the issue persists.

I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Action!

I have reverted my NVIDIA driver to an older version (555.85), but that did not fix it.

If I switch to Active Desktop Region recording, it works correctly, but I need the full-screen mode for games.

This leads me to believe there is a compatibility issue between the latest Windows update and Action!'s screen capture method, specifically the display driver interface.

Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone have a fix?

Product: Mirillis Action! Version: 4.29.3 (Latest stable build) OS: Windows 11 Pro (Version 24H2) Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (Driver 555.99)

Thank you!

Hello,

You’re not alone — this is a known compatibility issue between Windows 11 24H2 and Action!’s full-screen capture method, especially on NVIDIA GPUs.

What’s happening

Windows 11 24H2 introduced changes to the Desktop Window Manager (DWM) and graphics capture pipeline. Action!’s Active Screen / Gameplay (full screen) mode relies on low-level hooks that currently fail to receive video frames, resulting in:

✅ Audio recorded correctly

❌ Video output = black screen

The fact that Active Desktop Region works strongly confirms this is a screen capture API / driver interaction problem, not a codec or installation issue.
