Constant crashes under 4K (200% scaled)

Mon May 04, 2026 10:30 am

Action: 4.48.0.0
OS: Windows 10 x64 22H2
GPU: Nvidia RTX 3060 12GB

Hello, I have been using Mirillis Action for many years and have been very happy with the performance and quality. I ran a dual-monitor 1920x1080 setup but I recently replaced the primary with a 4K 3840x2160 OLED display, scaled to 200% to mimic 1080p via Windows 10's builtin Scale and layout setting display. I'm getting constant crashes and broken windows trying to run Action now. I can occasionally take a screenshot or two, but trying to record video results in a crash. Many dropdown menus and other Action UI elements, such as selecting encoding format, display as invisible when clicked (for example, clicking File format causes the "MP4" text color to change, but the actual dropdown list does not appear). Opening the excluded process list starts to draw the list of already excluded processes, then hangs for a few moments and ultimately results in a crash. Even doing nothing, the program eventually crashes after a minute or so. Occasionally, a crash results in my monitor blanking briefly and possibly crashing another random program (which is why I wanted to try excluding more processes, but have been unable to do so). Does anyone have any advice how to make it work with this setup?

This is not unusual, particularly when scaling from 1080p to 4K at 200% on Windows 10. 4K displays require extra processing power, especially when recording at high resolutions. If drivers are not up to date or are incompatible, screen recording software such as Action may freeze or crash.

Wow, that sounds frustrating! It seems like the high resolution and scaling are really throwing Action for a loop. I haven't used a 4K setup with it myself, but I wonder if it's struggling with the increased processing load. Have you tried experimenting with lowering the recording resolution within Action itself, even if your display is scaled up? That might reduce the processing burden. Also, is your GPU driver fully updated? Perhaps there's an incompatibility with the way Action interprets the slope of the scaling, causing these visual glitches and crashes. Worth checking that out. Good luck!
